In a sentence. A gallery in the middle of nowhere obsessed with understanding optimal ways to use art in the transmission of lived emotions from one human being to another.

In a paragraph. Contemporary art space focusing on experiment and experiential works. We bring cutting edge projects to life in the strange vortex which is Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Handloom, sculpture, intaglio, painting, printmaking, art clothing, adornment, knives, and books.

At length. Truth or Consequences Contemporary is the physical space we occupy in our minds. A refuge for the arts supporting a laboratory to answer the questions of “what is relevant as we move into this new world.” It is the continuation of a fourteen year project in TorC NM. We have had four distinct iterations of this space so far: first with Olin West at Mud Mountain Studio and 100th Monkey Gallery, followed by Seba the hip hop party world art factory which then morphed into Desert Archaic, a creative vortex in the oasis. Truth or Consequences Contemporary is the culmination of everything we’ve learned over the past decade and more, and takes rural art to international levels.

The whole story is on the history page.

The founders

Jeannie Ortiz is a New Mexico based artist who spends her days entangled in the threads of weaving, adornment making, sculpture and intentional movement through the vast beauty of this natural world. Natural fibers, lovingly dyed, are the substance that come to life on her loom. Found stones are at the heart of potent wearable talismans that she brings to life. The act of creating has been a daily practice for her since childhood, it is an expanding exploration of what it means to be a human, in this place and in this time. Her handloom and adornment works are collected globally. jeannieortiz.com

Kyle Parker Cunningham was born in Wyoming, raised in Montana, and now resides with his partner Jeannie Ortiz on the banks of the Rio Grande at the edge of the great expanse of Gila Wilderness in Truth or Consequences, NM. On a singular canvas the world is framed as he sees it today, as it was yesterday, and as it could be tomorrow, merging archaic images with the technologies of the future. He paints, printmakes, sculpts and binds books. kyleparkercunningham.com
