A Gallery in the Middle of Nowhere

Fieldwork

Every summer we leave the gallery for a while and go out into the wild to live, explore and make art. We call it Fieldwork. It is where this whole project started and we go back to it every year.

We are in constant movement and exploration. The wild is from where we get inspiration and also feel at home, ready to live and be. In 2010 we walked here, across the desert and mountains from Phoenix on the Grand Enchantment Trail, and the year after that we built a wooden teardrop trailer and lived in it for a year, making art and enjoying the wilds.

Then in 2021 we watched one of our favorite places on earth burn for nearly a month. We wrote about it in one of the first Dispatches: “We realized, right then, that we had to go back to living by and in the wild, because the wild is as big as it will ever be in our lifetime right now. We are journeying to make art which is itself the creation; the journey is the destination.”

So we go. Out there it is painting, printing, aerial performance, and stones carried home from riverbeds. What comes back with us in the fall becomes the winter’s exhibitions and books. Evidence of Existence, a handbound codex of terra and flora prints from the American Rockies, was made entirely in the field in the summer of 2025.

While we are out

The gallery keeps irregular hours through the summer. If you are making a trip, get in touch first and we will make sure someone is here for you. Orders from the shop ship slower than normal, so write to us if you need a rush order.
